The reading by Manet
Mondays with Edouard Manet!
Dominated by white, the painting shows Manet's "stepson" Léon Leenhoff reading to Manet's wife, Suzanne (Leenhoff). Like Victorine Meurent, here Suzanne is staring right at you -- or is she looking at her husband and wondering what she's gotten herself into.

Three portraits of Paule Gobillard by Morisot
Tuesday with Berthe Morisot!
Paule Gobillard (1867-1946) was the daughter of Yves and Theodore Gobillard, and the niece of Berthe Morisot (Yves was Berthe's older sister). Paule would become an accomplished post-impressionist painter, note her painting or perhaps copying in the top image, and would eventually become a full member of the Salon (1906).
